I Made Pudding

Hello Internet.  Today I had a biology exam.  I seriously had no motivation to study.  It was on gene expression, mitosis, meiosis, cell regulation.  Fun stuff right.  However I kept getting distracted.  For example I downloaded Spotify (which is amazing!) and created a Christmas playlist.  Yeah that's right, Christmas.  I am so ready for Christmas.  Well I'm just ready to go home in general because I'm kinda missing my family.  Well mainly my cat Tibby.  She rocks.  So right now I'm jammin' to All I Want For Christmas is You.  Mariah Carey is the bomb.com.  Hmm what else is new?  Oh speaking of Christmas, there are certain people that I need to see again.  You know who you are.

You know what a delicious dessert is?  Pudding.  This is your answer right.  Well if it's not I don't know why we're friends anymore.  So, I'm majoring in dietetics and most of my classes are going to be food related.  Well, today in my Food Nutrition class I made pudding.  I know what you're thinking.  Hey isn't pudding super easy to make.  It just takes a box and some milk. WRONG! I made homemade pudding.  Which really isn't that difficult to make.  It takes sugar, corn starch, salt, egg yolks, vanilla, and margarine.  See.  These are ingredients that most people have.  If not well it's not that hard to get them.  So, at first I was concerned because it wasn't thickening and it says, let thicken until boils.  It started boiling, but there was very little new thickness.  But it's all good.  So if you want I have attached the recipe. If you make it make sure you keep it off heat until you are ready so, when you add the milk.  Otherwise the sugar heats up and clumps together.  Error right there.  Oh well.  It turned out all good.  Anyways here is the ingredient list and recipe.  Maybe you could make it to impress your families this holiday season.  Enjoy!

1/3 Cup Sugar
2 Teaspoons Cornstarch
1/8 Teaspoon Salt
2 Cups Milk
2 Egg Yolks, beaten
2 Tablespoons margarine (or butter)
2 Teaspoons Vanilla

  • 1In 2-quart saucepan, mix sugar, cornstarch and salt. Gradually stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute.
  • 2Gradually stir at least half of the hot mixture into egg yolks, then stir back into hot mixture in saucepan. Boil and stir 1 minute; remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla.
  • 3Pour pudding into dessert dishes. Cover and refrigerate about 1 hour or until chilled. Store covered in refrigerator.

  • Also, this recipe was given to me by my professor, but it is from the Betty Crocker Cookbook.  No credit goes to me other than the fact that I made it.

Nails of the Day

Today, I am wearing OPI's Who the Shrek Are You from the Shrek Forever After collection a few years ago.  It's a bright green that looks dirty almost.  The color of Shrek.  It's not a very fall color, but I decided to wear it for fun, but now I'm excited to get into the colors of fall.  Yay October!

Also, just want to add this is not my picture, it is someone else's and their hand.  I "borrowed" a picture from the internet because the picture I took was not very good, and I haven't had a chance to re upload a better one.

Re-Booting

I decided to reboot this blog.  I wasn't blogging because I just didn't want to/I forgot I had a blog... Is that bad?  I don't think it is.  Okay, well it's always easier to blog in the summer when I don't have the challenges of life around me.  Also, I couldn't find a summer job which is really annoying because I'm going to college in the fall (Bowling Green State University) and I need to be able to pay for stuff.  I decided this will be something to occupy my time in my not busy at all summer.  I was busy, and was in Legally Blonde the Musical with a summer youth theatre company.  It was fun, but now that's over so I have nothing to do.  So, I'm going to start blogging again.  Also, going with my book theme.  My goal for the summer is the read 50 books.  I've already read 20 books.  And I only have a month left.  So it probably won't be completed but like I said I now have time to do things again.  Really it was my lovely friend Sam who reminded me this existed when we were talking about books this morning I remembered I blogged about a read.  Honestly I can't remember the title right now but it was a good one.  Now here I am.  My next post will be about what I've been doing this summer and maybe a list of the books I've read and other fun stuff.  But this was just a little summary of what I'm planning on doing.

Zoo and Work

Hello peeps.  So this summer has been busy, so I haven't really had that much of a chance to read as much as I usually do in the summer.  Sad face I know.  Anyhoo so I don't have to go back to the zoo for a couple weeks, and I just went to the library and got a few new books so I'm going to read those and blog it.  So this summer I am volunteering at the Cincinnati Zoo (and Botanical Gardens if you really care about the proper name) and I am assisting with day camp.  It's fun enough but not what I thought I would be doing.  Hey a major plus is I get to get into the zoo for free! The first week I had 4 and 5 year olds and my goodness were they a handful.  Basically it's my job to keep them in line so they don't wander off, make them listen to the instructor, and help out with various tasks.  It's not the best volunteer job but it works.  I would like to do some volunteering for less fortunate people or animals but whatever.  Also, I worked with the Ohio River Foundation as part of the Youth Conservation Team.  That was fun but a lot of work.  It was from like 9 to 3 and the end of June beginning of July so it was hot.  We had to dig so much dirt.  I never want to see another shovel or swail again.  Yeah that's right i typed swail.  We dug swails to divert the water from flowing onto the trail/path.  It was our job to stop water erosion.  It was good fun.  Did you know that the Tree of Heaven's sap can cause a fake heart attack.  Some of the guys really wanted that to happen so they touched it.  There were 6 of us total 3 girls 3 guys.  Well I can say that I got tan.  A really bad tan that looks awkward with my pale skin like a sock tan and t-shirt tan.  FARMER' S TAN!!!! Party.  Not really though.  Okay enough with this boring work talk! Thanks for reading Caroline :)

Sticky Tack

So do they still make sticky tack?  I remember they did like 3 years ago.  I checked like 3 stores for sticky tack.  I checked K-Mart, Target, and the dollar store.  I looked in the office supply section assuming it would be there because logically that is where it should be.  I looked next to tape, glue, and regular tacks.  I really need sticky tack!!!! The reason being because I like to hang stuff up on my wall and i use masking tape which is a huge hassle because I have to rip off the tape and fold it into that little double sided thing.  It irks me.  You know what I am going to google this: Okay so I checked the almighty google for my answer.  I can only buy it on amazon.com or at staples or office max.  So specialty office supply stores.  Well this answers my question.  Now I am off! Actually it'll be a while because I have stuff to do before I go out and about.   Later peeps

Anna and the French Kiss

Well, I know what you're thinking.  "Gosh Caroline why are you reading a book like that it sounds super inappropriate?" Well you are wrong! HA! It is not inappropriate well at least for a young adult book it's not bad.  Anna and the French Kiss is written by Stephanie Perkins.  You can visit her website here.  It's her first book and it's awesome.  Not only because it takes place in Paris the most amazing city in the world, but because it's about romance, food, friendship, movies, parents(family), ummm and other things...
So here's a synopsis of this lovely book.  Anna is a senior, but instead of spending her last year with her best friend Bridgette and her crush her parents send her off to boarding school in Paris.  Anna hates the idea because she's leaving behind everything she's ever known, and she doesn't even know how to speak French.  She starts crying in her tiny room once her parents leave and then her neighbor Meredith comes over to talk to her.  They end up talking for a few hours.  Meredith promises it will be better and she'll learn to love to love school.  In the hallway she literally runs into Etienne St. Clair.  Who is attractive but she learns he has a girlfriend.  Boo right.  Etienne or St. Clair as everyone calls him is this great guy who is French and American but grew up in England so he has a British accent.  He and Anna become best friends but secretly Anna wishes it could be something more.  To find out more about Anna and to see if she ever gets her French kiss read Anna and the French Kiss.
I really liked this book.  I went to France last year so when she talks about going to all these places i got really excited.  Plus there is a lot of talk about French food!!!!! This is the best kind of food especially crepes.  Which are good.  Other than the French aspects of the book I liked the characters they seemed really real, if not a little fake with their problems.  Also deep down I'm a sucker for books about girls who like a guy but the guy doesn't realize it.  They're my weakness.  So because the book mainly takes place in Paris and it has an awesome story plot line i give this book a 9 out of 10 on the Caroline Scale of Book Awesomeness.  I would give it a 10 only if it was deeper than it was.  It was a book that was on the lighter side of life.  I recommend this book to anyone who likes France or just wants a good book to read.  :) Caroline

Beanie Babies

Ok so I watch youtube videos by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK2YNYdcSss&feature=feedu and Christine Riccio is a fast talking funny person.  She made a video regarding beanie babies.  Who doesn't remember beanie babies?  I was still a little young when they first came out so I wasn't always careful with my beanie babies.  I would actually take the tags off! Oh the horror.  Now they are worth nothing.
After watching her video, I went upstairs and got out my beanie babies.  I thought I had more than what was in the bag... Whatever.  In the video, she said Bears are the most rare and are worth the most. I never liked the bears.  I thought they were tacky and not cool like the real animals.  I remember they made birthday bears and those were cool.  Well that's all I really have to say on the matter.  Beanie Babies were awesome and trump webkinz any day.
